Our Teen Fitness program will be made available for youth aged 12 to 17 at all GoodLife Fitness clubs from coast to coast, starting July 2nd 2011, to August 31st 2011.

The program will be made available 7 days a week, between 8am to 4pm, with the last check-in at 3pm at each club.

Participating teens will have full club access with the following exceptions: tanning, pool, sauna, whirlpools, and Hot Yoga. See the full rules and regulations of the program.

We’ve all heard the news: overweight and obese teenagers are tipping the scales at an alarming rate. According to the Canada Health Measure Survey (2010), over 26 percent of children and youth are overweight. Additionally, 60 percent of Canadian youth do not get the required daily physical activity for optimum growth and development. A whopping 93 percent of children and youth are not meeting Canada’s physical activity guidelines.

“At GoodLife, we are passionate about helping all Canadians become fit and healthy and we know the importance of starting healthy habits at a young age,” said David Patchell-Evans, GoodLife Founder & CEO.

Thank you for your overwhelming response to our Teen Fitness Membership. We ask that any Teens who registered on June 1st please register again to receive your membership information. Our apologies for any confusion or inconvenience our delay has caused.

No To Fracking

PRESS RELEASE STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PROVINCE OF NEW BRUNSWICK IS FAILING TO FULFILL THEIR OBLIGATIONS

As President and Chief of New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples Council, I’m putting a call out to the Off Reserve Aboriginal Peoples in the province of New Brunswick to take notice of the information being distributed by concerned groups and individuals around the province on hydraulic fracturing for shale gas.

The New Brunswick Government is taking steps that allow industry to begin processes that will lead to hydraulic fracturing for shale gas all over the province resulting in the raping of our lands and resources and intoxicating our waters and food sources.

In Haida, Taku River (2004) and Mikisew Cree (2005), the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that government has a duty to consult, and where appropriate, accommodate with Aboriginal Peoples when the Crown contemplates conduct that might adversely impact potential or established Aboriginal or Treaty Rights.

Government has not yet consulted with the Off Reserve Aboriginal Peoples of this province on the issue of hydraulic fracturing. I have been mandated by those I represent, to pursue and enforce Canada’s and New Brunswick’s obligation to fulfill their duty. It is time to remind Governments of that duty as it appears they are not taking it seriously. It is not sufficient that they inform us of a bridge replacement or a blueberry field, but fail to communicate on issues that reach such a serious nature as hydraulic fracturing or environmental strategies.

This and other issues are of importance to all New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples, and all life in general, in the Province and I am interested in presenting a united front on issues like hydraulic fracturing. Activities such as these and actions recently taken, for example the recent amendments to New Brunswick’s Wetland Strategy which were also done without consulting Aboriginal groups in the province, can cause irreparable harm to our earth. In closing, we as Aboriginal peoples have a true and inherent responsibility to protect, preserve and provide for those that are not yet born. It is time we stand and be responsible.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a health hazard alert on Monday warning grape tomatoes distributed by Sobeys in Atlantic Canada and Quebec are being recalled because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

The CFIA is warning consumers not to eat the Santalina Very Sweet Grape Tomatoes sold in 280 gram clamshell packages under the Compliments brand.

The products affected have been sold since April 15 in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, P.E.I., Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. Customers can return the tomatoes or the UPC code to their Sobeys store for a full refund.

Mastronardi Produce Ltd. of Kingsville, Ontario issued the voluntary recall after it was notified by its supplier, Six L. Packing Company in Immokalee, Florida, that one lot of tomatoes was contaminated with salmonella anatum.

There haven't been any reported illnesses associated with the recalled tomatoes.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

Consumers can contact Mastronardi Produce Ltd. by calling (519) 990-4054
